Likewise, if the churches of Christendom, including other religious and non-religious organisations have realised the grace shown to them by the Father through this celebration, they would have come out of their pride and turnout en mass to appreciate God,” Leader Obu stated.
Eton Day in Brotherhood is symbolic of the biblical exodus of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land.
It is observed annually on August 8th as the day that God’s Kingdom and His children were physically revealed on earth; August 8th, 1958.
On this day in 1958, Brotherhood of the Cross and Star members in a procession led by the founder, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu wore white garment for the first time and marched from 8 Eton Bethel Calabar; the cradle Bethel to 26 Mbukpa Chapel, Calabar.
The 2011 Eton Day Celebration witnessed testimonies from members and non-members of the fold. They testified to the positive impact that Brotherhood has made in their ancient city of Cross River State since its inception.
Some non-members who spoke with our correspondents said Brotherhood is a unique fold and everything done by her was different from other denominations, thus, depicting its heavenly nature.
Others who watched the procession in the streets of Calabar said, “This Brotherhood is a wonderful fold. In spite of the negative things we say about them, it is waxing stronger every day.”
Although the celebration is in remembrance of the great march and revelation of the children of God, it means different things to different people.
While some people see it as a day of salvation to those who believe in God, others describe it as a day that the children of God reflect on the tortuous process of transformation that the Kingdom of God has passed through.
Our Correspondents who were on duty conducted an on-the-spot interview with some of the participants who expressed their views on the celebration.
To the Bishop of Nigeria, His Lordship Bishop Sam Akpan, “it is a distinguished revelation of God’s Kingdom and His elects on earth and a reflection of righteousness that govern the earth.’’
He also described it as a day that mankind should appreciate Leader Olumba Olumba Obu and His Christ, His Holiness, Olumba Olumba Obu for their mercy, love and kindness upon us, hence, calls for purging the heart of evil to inherit God’s Kingdom.
The Celebration of Eton Day is part of the Kingdom’s sacrament which is spiced with festivity and divine procession amidst spiritual choruses laden with blessings in order to be connected with God is the view of the Bishop of Cross River and Benue States, Bishop Winston Nakanda.
Also speaking on the significance of the event, Senior Christ Servant (SCS) Essien Essien Ndu pointed out that it was a celebration of Victory over evil. It is a day where God physically led His elects in a process to His destination on earth.
However, the security personnel were not left out as they were at strategic points to control the traffic.
Speaking on their behalf, the BCS Director of Security, Retired Brig.-Gen. Enang Essien who likens the event to the historic movement of the children of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land stressed that it is a purification period.
He advised members to use the period to practice the injunctions of the Holy Father so that the blessings of the event will reach them.
While Deaconess Mercy Uteh, the President of Nigeria National Women Fellowship described the event as the beginning of liberation for humanity, the International President of the Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, Bishop Simon Apana said it commemorates the beginning of the Holy Father’s ministry of bringing the creation together to be one indivisible family.
The event ended with a fund-raising ceremony tagged Eton Trust Fund to develop Eton Bethel. >>>> View Pictures |
