Nollywood stars, society bigwigs take over ceremonies

For two days, 19 and 20 November 2009, all roads led to No. 34 Ambo Street in Calabar where the man whom his mammoth followers call
King of kings and Lord of lords, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu celebrated his birthday.
The grandiose event attracted all classes of men, including avalanche of great men, especially those who influence the course of science, business and living in Nigeria. Some were invited but majority were pulled by the lure of what is annually dubbed 'the King's Dinner ". From all ends of the world they came to awash themselves with the grandeur and preponderance of power, ambience, largess and opportunity to mingle and shake hands with the saints and angels, kings and business moguls, entertainment gurus and leaders of government and industries.
These are those that populate the headquarters of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star as well as guests who usually thronged this annual pomp and pageantry, funded sumptuously by the founder and leader of the Brotherhood whose fame, followers say resounds globally.
The presence of Nollywood stars was much felt just as the stream of top military brass, influential bankers, representatives of governors and the National Assembly, traditional rulers and church leaders literarily took over the King's birthday dinner, singing his goodness and favours.
Some of the Nollywood stars who were present including Bob Manuel, Rita Edochie etc had featured in the film 'Holy Father' which is about the founder of the Brotherhood in partnership with Brollywood, an organization established to run the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star movie industry.
Notable personalities like Charley Boy Oputa, Sam Loco Efe etc had personally visited before now, sent felicitations, whereas humour merchants like Romeo without Juliet, Angel dey Laugh, Prince Baba Pikin, Mike Ogbolosinga presented acts to revel the moment.
The Government of South Africa, the Federal Road Safety Commission sent representatives with encomium. The Nigeria House of Representatives was represented by Hon. Alex Ukam who represents Biase/Akamkpa state constituency while Akwa Ibom State delegated His Lordship Bishop (Hon.) Samuel Akpan, deputy chairman of Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by national secretary Zone B, Comrade Sebastin Ekpenyong conferred on the King of kings the 'Icon of Peace award' to recognize his relentless crusade for individual, global peace and the brotherhood of man.
To mark the event, heavily captured by the electronic media, a N70 million 3-storey magnificent edifice was commissioned. It is complete with a 5000 capacity auditorium, offices and school block. It is located inside the sprawling, multi-billion naira 34 Ambo premises of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star.
The chief celebrant, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu in his message, urged all to emulate the living standards of Our Lord Jesus Christ and refrain from sin. He vowed to intensify and double his philanthropy, public welfare and scholarship endowment. He also commended the government of President Yar'Adua on the ongoing Amnesty programme in the troubled Niger Delta region.
